Geraniin, Gene-Eden-For-Safer-Sex Ingredient, Protects Against Herpes (HSV) Infection

A new discovery has been made in protecting against the Herpes Simplex Virus (HSV).

Researchers at the Kaohsiung Medical University’s College of Pharmacy in Taiwan have discovered that “geraniin was… found to inhibit HSV-1 and HSV-2 multiplication at different magnitudes of potency.” (1) This discovery in the fight against HSV is important, as the Center for Disease Control (CDC) has stated that “results of a nationally representative study show that genital herpes infection is common in the United States. Nationwide, 16.2%, or about one out of six, people 14 to 49 years of age have genital HSV-2 infection.” (2)

Understanding the herpes virus is important to understanding any treatment designed to prevent or suppress it. Because “there is no cure for herpes” and that “between herpes outbreaks, the virus lies dormant” (2) prevention and suppression are both important to protecting good health. While several antiviral medications exist that shorten and prevent herpes outbreaks when taken (3), none exist which are designed to prevent initial infection. Until now.
