3)TEMPERATURE The formula F= 9/5C + 32 gives the temperature in degrees Farenheit for a given temperature in degrees Celcius. What is the temperature in degrees farenheit when the temperature is -40 degrees celcius?
4) PHYSICS the formula h= 120t – 16t to the power of 2 gives the height h in feet of an object t secounds after it is shot upward from earths surface with an initial velocity of 120 feet per secound. What will the height of the object be after 6 secounds?
5) AGRICULTURE Faith owns an organic apple orchard. From her experience the last few seasons, she has developed the formula P= 20x – 0.01x to the power 2 – 240 to predict her profit P in dollars this season if her trees produce x bushels of apples. What is Faith’s predicted profit this season if her orchard produces 300 bushes of apples?
3)
1. First, plug -40 C into the “C” slot in your formula. You should get F = 9/5(-40) + 32
2. Then, multiply 9/5 and -40. You should get F = -72 + 32
3. Last, add -72 and 32. You should get F = -40. Your answer is the same, because when the temperature gets really low on the Celsius and Fahrenheit scale, the temperatures even up to be nearly the same, but in this case, they actually turn out to be the same.
4)
1. This problem will be done in a similar fashion as the first one. First, plug 6 seconds into your “t” slot in your formula. You should get h = 120(6) – 16(6)^2
2. Then, multiply 120 and 6. You should get h = 720 – 16(6)^2
3. Next, raise 6 to the 2nd power. You should get h = 720 – 16(36)
4. Then, multiply 16 and 36. You should get h = 720 – 576
5. Last, subtract 720 and 576. You should get h = 144 feet
5)
1. This problem is similar to the first two problems. First, plug 300 bushels into the “x” slot of your formula. You should get P = 20(300) – 0.01(300)^2
2. Then, multiply 20 and 300. You should have P = 6,000 – 0.01(300)^2
3. Next, raise 300 to the 2nd power. You should get P = 6,000 – 0.01(90,000)
4. Then, multiply 0.01 and 90,000. You should get P = 6,000 – 900
5. Last, subtract 6,000 and 900. Your answer should be P = $5,100
Those should be the answers to your problems. If, anybody sees any mistakes in my reasoning or math, I would appreciate a message. Thank you.
