farmers fertilize the fields to add materials for plants to make proteins and grow, sometimes animal manure is used, sometimes chemical fertilizers. Farmers also plow under certain crops that have nodules on the roots with bacteria that can take the nitrogen out of the air

Everything is made of chemicals whether or not you call them organic. Chemical fertilizers can be made with exactly the compounds needed. If they are put on and it does not rain burning of the crop can occur.
Organic fertilizers may contain unwanted weed seeds and also possible pathogenic bacteria. Composted sludge from sewage treatment plants can be used. If the sewage treatment plants handled sewage from industrial plants, they may also contain heavy metals. Using organic fertilizers does help to use up a waste product that otherwise would need to be handled and transferred somewhere.
