Gerber Organic Puffs

gerber organic puffs

Good first finger foods?

Bananas not so good (too messy and sticky!), Gerber puffs (the 1/2 sugar organic ones even!) taste so good they get frustrated and start crying, same with rice rusker num nums.

So what is a good first finger food? I gave them a bit of raw green pepper today, but was worried about the choking hazard it poses? They are seven months, and are starting to pick up tiny raisin sized objects, so I want finger foods for them to practice on.

Cheerios? Anything else?
I feed them extremely thick purees right now. Everything is the texture of mashed potatoes pretty much. lol.

They gummed big pieces of bell pepper, and I gave them little pieces which they gummed then swallowed. They have their bottom front teeth only right now.

My son is 6 months old and loves finger foods!! I have to sit and watch him while he eats but there’s so much you can give them!

Banana- just use a wet one to wipe down..theres going to be plenty of mess in the years to come!
crust off toast with butter and vegimite
plain buttermilk biscuits like ‘Arrowroot’
chicken- stuff that I’ve cooked and prepared especially for him.
watermelon
grapes
oranges
strawberries
pears

You can start making their ‘mash’ a bit chunkier now, I cook for my son and freeze chicken breast, brocolli & carrot and then chicken breast, potato, and pumpkin. I just cook the chicken all the way through (its diced very small) then put it in the blender with a bit of water. with the other veg I just ‘mash’ with a fork but it’s food that he needs to use his gums to ‘chew’ on (he’s been on solids since 4 months and still has no signs of teeth!)

Babies do choke from some foods because it’s their way of learning, its a different thing that they’re trying so if you give them food and it looks like they’re choking, don’t show panic as this can scare bub off solids, just be ready to scoop it out of their mouth with your finger, re assure them and say its ok..just bring it up, it won’t hurt you. Most of the time they arnt actually choking, it just goes down the back of their tongue withj a bit bigger piece than normal and thats their instant reaction.

Good luck
