Roofing: Is fiberglass or organic better for roofing?
I live in Toronto Canada, where it is mostly cold – but we do have hot weather. I read thaat fiberglass is good for where the weather is hot and organic for where the weather is cold.
Both have their pros/cons , but I would like to hear your opinion if you live in a climate such as Toronto Canada.
What is better organic or fiberglass.
Also is there a difference between the brands IKO and CertainTeed?
I live near Madison, WI, so I’m thinking our weather will be comparable. I’m also a carpenter, and have never seen a roofer use anything but asphalt/fiberglass shingles, unless they are using cedar shakes. Make sure to use a good quality shingle, 30 year or better. While you won’t get 30 years out of the roof, they will hold up a lot better to wind.
Iko is MUCH better than CertainTeed. I know a lot of people who have had problems almost from the first year with CertainTeed. Elk is another very good brand. Hope this helps.
