I had an Irish colleague a few years ago who introduced me to this natural remedy. We used to have our mixture of apple cider and honey with warm water 3 times a day and I was feeling quite healthy those days. He was a roamer and left to visit relatives in New Zeeland. We lost contact and it was the end of our habit, one I am now definitely getting into again!

Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) has been claimed by many people as a wonder drug due to the extensive benefits that the vinegar offers. It contains some of the most essential minerals, vitamins, trace elements (copper, iron, silicon, magnesium, phosphorous, calcium) and some important acids such as lactic acid, acetic acid, amino acid and a lot of enzymes. In the form of potash and apple pectin, it is good in fibre that is an essential component of a healthy diet.
Research has also discovered that pectin is an amazing nutrient which can actually help maintain healthy cholesterol levels.

ACV is produced when apple juice is fermented first to alcohol (making wine) and then to acetic acid (making vinegar). Ever since the Babylonians first converted wine into vinegar in 5,000 BCE, many have revered vinegar for its presumed healing qualities. Unfiltered and unpasteurised, naturally fermented cider vinegar, also known as organic apple cider vinegar, contains what is known as the “mother of vinegar”. It looks like stringy floating globs in the
liquid, and is where all of the healing properties of ACV reside. This is a living, fermented food – a chemical factory if you will – that continues to produce healthy micro-organisms.

It helps curb appetite, is a gentle detoxification agent, absorbs and blocks fat formation, boosts the immune system, supplies amino acids, minerals and vitamins, aids in metabolism to help burn and metabolize food efficiently. Is the apple cider vinegar from trader joe’s good for you to drink?

I kept hearing about how great acv is for you, so I decided to give it a try. Braggs is supposedly the best, but I saw some organic acv at tj’s and picked it up (the price was right, too). However, I’m reading that it’s pasteurized, thus removing some of the benefits. Is this true? Am I wasting my time by drinking this?

Any time something is pasteurized, most of the enzymes are destroyed. But ACV is still connected to a host of other positive treatments for the body. Both internal and external.
