Getting Rid of Toxins in the Bathroom

For most people, the bathroom is the one place they consider as a comfort zone or their most favorite place at home. Well, who wouldn’t want a rejuvenating bubble bath after a day’s work? However, little did we all know, the bathroom is one of the places in our home that harbors dangerous toxins. This is definitely something hazardous to our family’s health particularly our children. Here are some tips to keep our bathrooms safe and healthy for our kids.

First, make a switch from chemical cleaners to organic non toxic cleaners. It has been our instinct to keep our bathrooms immaculately clean. Studies revealed that a computer keyboard houses more germs than the toilet seat. And in our course to keeping our toilets spotless, we use a great amount of concentrated and strong chemical cleaners not knowing of the possible side effects of these products. For example, bleach, one of the most popular products housewives use in cleaning their toilets, can release toxins when mixed with other cleaners.

It would be wiser for us mothers to select a safer option such as organic and natural cleaning solutions. An example of this is Babyganics’ Scrub a Tub Tub and Tile Cleaner. Products such as these do not contain harmful residues. These are non toxic cleaners safe and effective for your baby.

The use of vinyl flooring, mats, and shower curtains is another one that we should take note of. Vinyl contains plasticizing chemicals such as phthalates that damages the body’s developmental, behavioral, and reproductive functions. These toxins can be released into the bathroom air.

Replace your vinyl items with a healthier alternative. Ceramic tiles are a viable replacement to vinyl mats. Organic cotton or ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) are good replacement to vinyl curtains.Improving the ventilation of your bathroom could also lessen the risk of toxins. Wetness and humidity could cause biological toxins or allergens like molds to thrive in the bathrooms. Make sure your bathroom receives ample ventilation. Install an exhaust fan and repair any leaks that encourage molds to grow.

Lastly, choose environment friendly products. Most conventional shampoos and soaps make use of chemical ingredients that could irritate the skin. They also harm the ecology when water contaminates the environment. Switch to natural products instead for a safer bath.

Is my sweat attracting ants?

This is an extremely embarrassing questions, especially since I am a very clean person ( I shower 3 times daily).
I work out daily for about an hour and 10 minutes and I eat Organic foods only.
Yesterday I walked in my bathroom and looked at my clothes hamper, there were ants everywhere crawling on my workout underwear and t-shirts. They were crawling on my clothes only, my partner’s clothes had no ants.
I am worried but shocked at the same time, I had never seen such a thing, it started happening a week ago and my eating habits have not changed.
Please advise.

Your sweat must have a certain pheromone attractive to ants.
