Dog with runs?
I have a two year old golden retriever, I feed him twice a day, dry food, a milk bone and a couple pieces of organic chicken jerky strips for dogs, during the past few days he seems to have very runny feces mixed with some solid chunks, to my knowledge he hasn’t eaten anything that he wasn’t supposed to, then again he does have 8 hours to himself in the yard while Im at work, he will go around and eat grass when we go to the dog park, is there anything I can give him to help him feel better, is this something that I should call the vet for a check up.
Also, can anyone recommend some good brands of organic dog food?
He does have plenty of fresh water and a dog door to the garage area where he sleeps which is also air conditioned automatically during the peak parts of the day.
If he’s outdoors all day, he may very well have worms. That’s a pretty common cause of diarrhea in dogs. You should probably at least send a stool sample to the vet for confirmation.
If its not parasites, he probably ate something he shouldn’t have or, perhaps has an allergy to the food you are giving him. In which case, you should withhold food for a day and then give small amounts of bland food like scrambled eggs (with little to no added fat) cottage cheese, boiled chicken or ground beef and plain rice. If he does well on that, add just one of his former foods and see what happens. Keep working your way back to the old diet to make sure there’s no allergy.
