earlobe stretching question- downsizing time?

So I stretched my lobes from a 6g to a 4g… then after only a day or two, i stupidly put some organic horn earrings in that irritated my ears and were very difficult to get out- they had almost fused to my skin or something. then for the next like 5 days my ears were really sore, even with my SS tunnels in. I tried sea salt soaks, tea tree oil & vitE… still sore. I decided to downsize back to a 6g b/c I heard that it can help your ear develop more collagen, etc and help prevent puckering or problems. My question is, how long should I leave the 6gs in before going back up to a 4?
