What Are The Most Enjoyable Group Party Games?
Can you involve everyone?
Occasionally, it may not be practical to organize games which involve everyone. For example, someone may not want to play a specific game. If there is no way that you are able to persuade them to take part, you should think about splitting the group into smaller groups so that everyone can enjoy themselves.
What types of games are there?
There are two main types of group party games: games with teams and games without teams. It’s better to have a balance, and to ensure that the teams are mixed up frequently to ensure no one is alienated.
Team party games include:
“Softball” is a game loved by my children’s friends; it’s basically baseball, but using a soft sponge ball and a tennis bat. Each team will take it in turns to field and bat. This game is great for summer.
“Tag” could be adapted so that each team has one tagger, who must tag the members of the other team (including the other tagger). When tagged, a player can be freed only by someone in their team circling them five times. But here’s the good bit, if they are tagged more than three times, they switch teams (and/or become one of the taggers). It’s up to you to decide how you want make the teams look different, but I normally ask one team to put roll their sleeves up.
Another game which is a lot of fun is “Racing Fancydress”. The group is split and you mark out a small track. It is a relay game, and each player runs the track and back, before slapping the hand of the next person who is required to do the same thing until everyone has run the track. However, I really like to mix it up by placing some items of clothing for each team (e.g. a rain mac, a hat and some big accessories) at the start of the track, so each runner has to change into (and out of!) the clothes.
“I’m A Princess: Dress Me!” is one of my children’s favorites. You’ll need to provide some old rags or some of your throw away clothes, and each team must dress one of their team like a princess. It’s a race against the clock and if it’s a close call, you will need to select which team made their girl the the most like a princess!
“Stitched Together” is a favorite of my children. This is where the team has to thread a piece of string through openings in the rest of their team’s clothes (e.g. t-shirts and pants) to rope the team together. The most stitched team wins.
Another enjoyable game is “Dodge Ball”.
Here are a few ideas of games which everyone in the group can play:
The good old fashioned games like “Hide and Seek”, “Tag” and “40/40” are always fun to play. Even though you probably played these games many times when you were young, they could be new to these players!
My girls always get a lot of fun from playing “Wink Spotlight”. One player leaves the playzone; such person is the ‘Casting Agent’. The remaining players close their eyes and you tap one person on the shoulder. They become the ‘DJ’. Everyone then opens their eyes and the Casting Agent returns. The DJ’s goal is to wink at all the players other than the Casting Agent before the Casting Agent is able to find out which player is the DJ. When a player is winked at, they must sing a quick sample of their favorite song (and if they would prefer, they do something which makes it clear to the Casting Agent that they were winked at!).
Games which use blindfolds are always enjoyable. You could include “Guess Who” by having someone blinded and getting them to guess the other players by touching their arms.
A variation of the always popular “Musical Chairs” is “Musical Newspapers”. To play this game, you will need to cover a large space with open sheets of newspaper. Get everyone to stand around the edge. Instead of a chair being taken away each time the music starts, one of the sheets of newspaper is taken away, until everyone has to crowd both feet onto the increasingly small space. People lose where either of their feet touches the floor.
I always find “Laughing Wolves” lots of fun. Everyone sits in a circle and starts laughing. At the start, none of the laughs are real, but after a while, they are. Sometimes this one is hard to move on from.
Frisbee games are also fun. Everyone stands in a circle. The Frisbee is tossed from person to person. Where one of the players drops the Frisbee, they have to put a hand behind their back. If they drop it again, they must kneel down, and so on. If there are players in the group who aren’t keen on sports, you could help them cheat!
To play “String Gifts” you need to attach one sweet to the end of a long piece of string. You will need as many gifts as you have players. You’ll then need to tangle the strings together, and give the ends of each string to the group. They then have to unravel their string to claim their prize.
A great activity game to play is “How Did This Happen To Me?”. To play this, everyone will need to stand in pairs holding hands (if there’s an odd number, there can be a group of three). Your aim is to get the different groups linking to each other so that everyone is jumbled. The jumble now has the mission of unravelling themselves into their initial groupings.
Good luck and have fun!!
Does the Click Through Ratio apply to organic results as it does with adwords to rank higher?
In the PPC game with Adwords and maybe others, the click through ratio increase your ranking nearer the top of the sponsored results.
Would the same apply to organic results? Would a catchy and proper description that makes the visitors click on your link move you up the organic results?
Yes, that is part of their algorithm but a faster way improve your rankings is to build links to your site.
