How did I end up like this? What should I do now?

i ask because i have been very sick and i fell behind, and to catch up in my undergrad organic chem course i would have to master chapters 1-8 by the exam that is on November 2nd…This is alot, but is it DOABLE???? or should i just withdraw? (8 chapters that i have not even been in class for….brand new material)

I just had the exact same problem, I fell sick for two weeks (the flu with blinding headaches) and fell behind in ochem. I did a lot of research about it online, talked to my advisors, etc., and you should know that dropping a course is *not that bad,* it will barely hurt you if you can meet all of these conditions:

1) You have a high GPA otherwise, esp. in your other classes in that term
2) You must retake the class and do very well in it
3) You have not dropped any other classes (two is the limit, but you should really try to keep it to one at most)
4) You have a good reason and can explain yourself before the admissions committee (which you can)

At least this is what I was told. If you think you can catch up, go for it, but I’d be very careful- if your ochem class is anything like mine, it will be extremely difficult, if not impossible, to catch up. I have caught up dramatically in classes before after being sick, I kept a 3.9 GPA over four years in college, and this is the first time I’ve ever had to drop a course. Given that they recommended I’d drop, you should probably do the same unless you are certain you can get at least a C+ or B minus in the class.
