Baring all at the Christmas Party? Get tips for the perfect Natural and Organic Tan
So what are the alternatives? Well natural and organic skincare has come a long way in the tanning stakes over the last few years. There are now companies like Lavera, Evolve, Organic Pharmacy and more who provide tanning lotions you can use easily at home. By choosing an organic skincare product like Lavera’s Shimmer Spray Tan or tanning lotion you can swap synthetic tanners and fragrance for sugar and essential oils instead!
Creating your tan at home:
- Prep is everything. Winter pretty skin must have dry, rough patches removed before attempting to create the perfect tan. If you are using a natural tanning lotion to create your winter tan it is ideal to exfoliatethe night before to smooth skin before applying the tan the next day.
- Give back. It’s important to then use a natural or organic body lotion to moisturise the new layers of skin underneath using a rich cream to boost hydration.
- Tan. Use a natural gradual tanner (like Evolve’s Skin Glow Body Cream) prior to baring all at the Christmas party. And if you’re escaping to the sun these holidays remember:
- Avoid the high times. Avoiding the sun is the best anti aging thing you can do for your skin. Cover up or seek shade during the hottest times of the day generally between 11 and 3pm.
- Protect. You can give your skin a small amount of its own SPF protection by preparing with a beta-carotene supplements which enhance the bodies natural tan. Start this 10 weeks beforehand ideally to gain approx 4 SPF of protection. Try the New Chapter Berry Green which is packed full of 20 organic greens and fruits. Or even better increase you intake of green and orange leafy veg at meal times.
- Block. Make sure you use an organic skincare product with a natural sun screen. It should have a high enough protection factor too – 30+ is recommended. Look for physical sunblock ingredients such as zinc and titanium dioxide. They are less likely to cause skin sensitivity than chemical SPFs such as PABA. Apply it as your last layer 20 minutes before you go out in the sun.
- For afters. If you do decide to tan (safely), moisturise afterward with a hydrating lotion that also contains aloe vera which is great for calming any sun burn.
Scented baby lotion on new tattoo?
Ok so i just got a tattoo this morning, and i went to buy a lotion they told me to get A&D but i couldnt find it, and picked another baby diaper rash ointment, its says certified organic petroleum free, zinc oxide based but when i applied it it had a light scent and i was wondering if i should keep using it or buy something else??
You could check the ingredient panel to see if there’s any added scents. If there is, you should get a lotion that isn’t unscented. Scented lotion can burn a tattoo.
