House Organization Made Easy
I used to struggle to keep my house clean. It took a lot of work to just keep thing picked up and if I didn’t keep up on cleaning, the mess would take over quickly.
After years of this, I finally consulted an expert. She helped me to organize my house for good. I’ve been amazed at how easy it is now to keep my home looking great, even with a young child in the house.
Here are three things that I learned that made my house organization easy.
House Organization Tip #1: Set Aside Some Time to Get Rid of Everything You Don’t Need – This first time you make a pass through the house, you might not get rid of much. But the second, third, and fourth times that you do this, you’ll start to get the hang of it. To keep this process from dragging on and on, clean out one room at a time, and then, move on.
Keep in mind that each room has a purpose. If you’re cleaning out the bedroom, take everything out of the bedroom that doesn’t have to do with sleeping, relaxing, or getting dressed. The bedroom is not a place for office work, mail, or boxes. Clear it out.
House Organization Tip #2: Everything Should Have a Place – More home organization projects have failed because there are not places to put things. Incoming mail must have a home. My home office is in the basement of our house. I know that I am not going to traipse down the stairs every time I get the mail. So I have a decorative basket with a lid that I put in the kitchen. In it, I put incoming mail, “to-do” things, and other items that need to go down stairs. Every two days or so, I’ll take the basket downstairs and empty it. But in the mean time, I don’t have important papers floating about on the kitchen counter.
House Organization Tip #3: Once Your House is Cleared Out, Practice Keeping Every Room Clean, Every Day – This may seem manic and extreme. But once you do this on a consistent basis, you’ll be surprised at the new ideas you come up with to keep things clean. You might continually clean up a mess over and over again until you realize that the reason the mess keeps appearing is because certain items don’t have a home. Or you may finally understand that certain places are too packed with items. Then, you can clear them out, finding a different home for certain things.
House organization is a work in progress. The more you work on it, the more you’ll progress. If you clear out the house enough, you’ll find that keeping your house clean is a snap. Good luck!
