The Organic Mattress Explained

In its purest form, there are many people who are allergic to latex. When latex is used to make mattresses, the material is

washed to remove the proteins that will frequently remove the allergic reaction to latex. In addition, there are layers of

padding between the outside and the core of the mattress to anybody from having direct contact with the latex. There are many

mattress retail stores who will supply a sample of the latex so that it can be evaluated by the consumer prior to being

bought.

There are many organic mattresses that contain wool, bamboo, and cotton for cover tops and padding along with natural latex.

Many manufacturers make completely organic mattresses that don’t use any chemicals during any part of the manufacturing

processing. Wool pads and covers will usually absorb moisture which makes it perfect for staying dry and cool in the night

and reducing interrupted sleep and discomfort. For the people who may be sensitive to wool products, wool that is

hypoallergenic and seldom causes an allergic reaction.

In addition, an organic mattress is environmentally friendly because it reduces pollutants while it is being manufactured.

The materials, especially the natural latex, are hypoallergenic. Organic mattresses are also biodegradable which needs to be

taken into consideration for future generations who will have to deal with landfill problems.

There is another new mattress currently on the market that is made from a honeycomb grid which has mineral oil in it that is

set at just the right consistency for strength and support. Many makers of these new mattresses advertize that they have the

ability to support the entire body while virtually eliminating all of the pressure points.

While it may be somewhat more expensive if you select an organic mattress over a synthetic mattress it may also very well

result a mattress that lasts longer and a better night’s sleep. Another of the benefits that the organic mattress offers is

that it helps the environment which is another very good reason to buy either a partially or fully organic mattress. In

addition, there are some mattress makers who offer much of their organic mattress stock for an average cost that is similar

to the standard synthetic mattresses.

Many mattresses claim to be organic, but not all of them really are organic. A real organic mattress contains no chemicals

and only natural materials. Some organic mattresses contain formaldehyde to make them fire retardant.

What is a good alternative to a PVC, polyeurethane filled crib mattress?

I cannot afford an expensive organic mattress. Should I use an old one that has off gassed and cover it with a mattress pad or is there another kind of mattress that is less dangerous but not expensive? Is there a way that I could make a safe mattress myself?

Under the new, stricter guidelines set by the U.S. government last year, poly foam matts are safer than ever. I apprieciate and understand your need to be green but the poly is still the most effective and reasonable option.
