Cherry Tree?

I went yesterday to Michigan to pick cherries, I picked a number of them and while there ate a few (few hundred) I saved a number of cherry cores (i apologies if that’s not the correct term, english is my 3rd language) and I was wondering if I was to plant one of them into a large pot with organic soil would it sprout so then I could transfer it into the ground? or wouldn’t it grow?

Most fruit trees grown today are grafts. That is where a favored tree is attached to the root of another tree. This is for a number of reasons, disease prevention, increased growth. Your seed should grow but may not produce a desirable tree.
