The Oklahoma City Civic Center Music Hall is home to great classical performances and concerts. Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Oklahoma City Ballet, Lyric Theatre and Academy, Oklahoma City Repertory Theatre, Oklahoma City Theatre Company, Canterbury Choral Society, Black Liberated Arts Center, and Celebrity Attractions are the eight resident professional arts organizations here.

Celebrity Attractions has been presenting Broadway shows since 1983. “The Phantom of the Opera”, “The Producers”, “Mel Brooks” musical, and more have been brought to audiences in the United States in Oklahoma, Arkansas, Texas and Missouri by Celebrity Attractions. They’re extremely popular among audiences, especially with great shows such as “Riverdance”, “Peter Pan” and “Mamma Mia!”

Directed by Maestro Joel Levine, the Oklahoma City Philharmonic is one of the most successful regional orchestras in America. They perform Classics, Pops and family concerts. Lyric Theatre has been performing since 1963. Their productions and programs for the year are divided into those for a mainstage summer season consisting of classic musical favorites along with modern selections, and unique productions for the winter season. Lyric Theatre consists of professional actors, designers, and technicians who work along with the best local talent.

The Oklahoma City Repertory Theatre or CITY REP is considered Oklahoma’s leading small professional Equity theatre, performing comedies, dramas and musicals. The group has provided Oklahoma City and the state of Oklahoma with a distinct voice. It consists of performers from Oklahoma joined by leading artists from the American stage, Broadway and off-Broadway.

A great 2008-09 season awaits audiences at the Oklahoma City Civic Center. One of the main aims of the Civic Center Foundation, a private and non-profit support arm of the Civic Center Music Hall, is to spread the enlightenment of the performing arts among the general public through the constant and vibrant presence of such performances, and educate the local youth about the important role played by arts in the community. The Oklahoma City Civic Center, whose music hall is at 210 North Walker Ave, is undoubtedly another gem of the city which visitors would want to check out. Hotels provide tours to the Civic Center locations and other Oklahoma attractions.

Ways to deter weeds and insects, any ideas?

I’m thinking of doing a no till bed veggie garden in Oklahoma with sandy/clay soil.
I’m going to be making a compost pile and doing everything organic…so if I cant use bug spray or weed killer how do I rid my garden of it’s unwanted guest?

When bugs first appear in the garden as plants are growing, we typically resort to some chemical to evict the pests. With some advance planning of your garden, you may be able to prevent them from showing up in the first place. The answer? Flowers!

Certain flowers give off a fragrance that repels bad bugs, while other flowers emit a fragrance that lures the good bugs.

Annuals

Both marigolds and nasturtium can handle a slew of buggy challenges. They thwart bugs that can harm your tomatoes, potatoes and strawberries including tomato hornworms, squash bugs, and whiteflies.

The fragrance of marigolds (more like odor because it is not a pleasant smell) is so strong, that if you plant marigolds around the perimeter of your garden, the mature plants will help deter rabbits and squirrels.

Perennials

Lavender is a wonderfully fragrant flower that can be cost prohibitive to show its true value. Lavender has the potential of keeping mice and ticks away, but you’d need a lot of the plants to create a lavender-fence so to speak. One of the best things about growing lavender is that you can use the highly fragrant buds to create sachet packets.

To attract ladybugs and lacewings, plant yarrow. Golden Marguerite (think yellow daisy) also brings in ladybugs and lacewings.
