New Consumer Trends in Organic Pet Food Have Tails Wagging
With more people becoming aware of just what goes into the making of commercial pet food, many of these same people are now opting for organic pet food when choosing what their pets are going to eat. One recent incident in particular has brought the problem of unhealthy pet food to the forefront of people minds and it involves pet food made in China.
Poisonous Chemicals in Your Pets Food
It seems that Chinese pet food manufacturers were using a chemical that mimics the presence of protein as an additive in the pet food that they were manufacturing for export to the U.S. This would have gone on unnoticed for years, had it not been for the fact that a number of dogs and cats became ill from consuming the tainted pet food and some even died from it.
Cancer Causing Greasy Goop
Also, many people are now becoming aware of the fact the used fast food fryer grease that is dumped in containers behind fast food establishments is commonly used as another pet food additive. Its the greasy stuff that gets on your hands when you handle your pets kibble and it is the worst type of fat that any creature can eat. In fact, may medical researchers have gone so far as to label this burnt, carcinogen laden greasy goop as poison.
Healthy Pets Avoid Vet Bills
The fact is that vet bills aren’t cheap and if you think that you are saving money by buying cheap pet food for your dog or cat, the truth is, that in the end you end up paying for their health problems that they contract from eating it. Organic pet food is nutritionally balanced and contains none of the poisonous additives that standard pet food contains. Also your pet will find it far more delicious and this means that dinner time for them will be more of a tail wagging joyous occasion.
Is Organic Pet Food worth the extra money? ?
Beaver Creek Foods look really good, about the same price as Newmans Own. I have one tiny cat middle aged indoors, so a bag of food lasts a month. Is it worth the extra couple bucks?

Yep… it’s worth it. And she likely turned off of can because you offered her dry, which is like offering a child a candy bar or an apple. They will always go for the candy.
Cats were never meant to eat dry food, also known as cereals or kibble. We, humans, make them eat it for convenience to us. It has nothing to do with them or their nutritional needs. It’s completely species inappropriate.
All small domestic cats descended from desert cats. In the wild, desert cats derive their entire liquid intake from their prey. They do not have a thirst mechanism because they don’t need it when eating a species appropriate diet. They get all they need from what they eat. Additionally water was usually not available to them in their desert climate. So they do not often drink water. Regular ol’ house cats have descended from those same wild desert cats.
So in a home environment, your kitty does not get the moisture it needs from dry food and it’s almost always in a constant state of dehydration. Water fountains are encouraged to TRY to get your cat to drink more and your kitty may even enjoy it, but it will never meet its water intake needs drinking from a bowl.
Deadly feline illnesses such as diabetes, kidney failure, obesity, allergies, Irritable Bowel Disease (IBD), constipation, bladder stones, kidney stones, urinary tract blockages and Urinary Tract Infections (FLUTD), with and without deadly crystals run rampant these days. Cats are not taking in enough water to stave them off. Proper water intake through a species appropriate diet alone can prevent most of these conditions.
Overall, wet is all around better for any cats diet, be it canned or Raw and they should never be fed dry cereal kibble if we wish to most closely match their wild nutritional and dietary needs. Kibble meets our needs… not our cats.
I recommend varying the diet with a constant rotation of 2 to 4 different brands of canned foods that your cat enjoys. If you do this, and allow your cat the same assortment they would have in nature when eating mice, bugs, birds and rabbits, your cat’s digestive system won’t be so sensitive and you won’t have to run around looking for a specific brand when your store is out. You will have a nice variety to choose from instead.
