Bamboo Cloth Diaper and Its Irresistible Advantages

Bamboo is botanically miraculous and eco-friendly materials in this planet. It is nature’s most enduring resource and is naturally regenerative with a very short growthcycle. It is one of the fastest growing plants in the world which can literally be grown without fertilizers, herbicides or pesticides. It is a tropical grass with an extensive root system that grows 4 to 6 new shoots per year. This is naturally replenishing itself and growing to typical height of 60 feet, while some prehistoric bamboos even exceeded the height of 280 feet. Depending on local soil and climatic conditions, some species could even grow up to 4 feet per day till 39 inch per hour due to a unique rhizome-dependent system. It can be harvested every 3 to 4 years. Bamboos also realise 30% more oxygen than other trees.

Being 100% biodegradableand sustainable than other textile fibres, bamboo fabric is one of the greatest environmental choices for the making of baby diapers. It is a natural textile made from the pulp of the bamboo grass, which is light, strong and super absorbent. Besides, it is also being recognized as one of the softest fabrics available in the market which can be worn next to the skin. Without pre-treatment, bamboo fibre is naturally round without sharp spurs to irritate the skin.

Laboratory Evaluations demonstrated that the rayon extracted from bamboo absorbs the moisture up to 3 times of its weight. It could absorb 70% more quickly than cotton. Rayon is a fabric-making process in which cellulose is forced through fine spinnerets and the filaments are solidified with the formation of fibres. These filament fibres are then woven with another fabric (normally cotton) to create the bamboo fabric. This rayon thread has uncountable micro holes for quicker and effective absorption. As it is cooler and breathable than that of cotton or other synthetic materials, bamboo is bringing great comfortability to baby.

Bamboo fabric is well-known as highly sweat absorbent in pulling moisture away from skin for further evaporation and proven to be one of the highest grades of moisture wicking fabrics. This thermal regulating and natural UV protestant can be worn throughout all seasons, by keeping babies cool during the summer time and remained warm during the winter.

Despite softer than cotton and even hemp, this natural organic product is hypoallergenic, antimicrobial and antibacterialwhich could fight off diseases and insects. This special property could be retained even after rounds of washing. Hence, it is always an ideal choice for babies with sensitive skin. Babies who are allergic to fabrics made from other non-natural materials will find that they will have no worries with this odour-resistant material. Odour-causing bacteria will be killed and evidently bringing better smell on the wearer. This wonderful feature, coupled up with their stretchy-smooth surface, makes babies happier while wearing bamboo cloth diaper.

For cleaning of bamboo cloth diapers, it is almost the same with the normal cloth diapers. Any detergent containing fabric softeners, stain guards, bleaches, fragrances, enzymes, natural extracts, brighteners, scents and dyes should never be used at all. Theoretically, only additive-free detergent shall be selected and used wisely for the washing of cloth diapers.

Bamboo diapers will only reach its’ maximum absorbency after 5-7 times of complete wash cycles. Since bamboo is so absorbent, it takes longer than cotton to dry in the dryer. In this case, depending on the humidity of your living environment, the consumer may wash all used diapers in the evening, hang dry overnight and dry them in the next morning. Line-drying is usually recommended as it will prolong the life of your bamboo diapers. The sunlight is the most natural bleaching agent and very helpful in removing any stubborn stains.

Knowing that bamboo fabric may have other advantages that yet to be discovered, its versatility and user-friendliness has offered an excellent alternative on modern baby diapering.
