Organic hair products the facts
Organic hair products are best! – Hype or the smart choice?
We are increasingly faced with the choice of organic vs traditional products. Food, cosmetics, clothes and furniture are just a few of the commodities that now offer a sometimes confusing and bewildering array of options.
The UK organic market is the third largest in Europe after Germany and Italy. In 2006, almost £2.5 billion worth of organic products were sold in the UK – an increase of 22 per cent on 2005.
This growth is continuing as consumers are becoming more informed as they begin to understand the harmful effects that non-organic products can have on their bodies and the environment. This is resulting in a shift towards natural and organic goods.
So do organic hair products really live up to the hype?
Traditional off-the-shelf hair care products contain, to varying degrees, chemicals that can cause serious harm. Potentially harmfull chemicals often found in the most popular brands include:
- Derivatives of Lauryl Alcohol – corrodes hair follicles, irritates the oil glands, drys scalp and causes hair loss
- Ammonium/sodium Lauryl Sulphates – causes skin irritation
- Methylisothiazoline – may cause nerve damage
- Propylene Glycol – antifreeze
- Parabens – a preservative that’s potentially harmful
- Olefin Sulfonate – deodorized kerosene
‘Please take a look at this independent report’
Take a moment to check your bathroom cabinet to see if any of these nasty ingredients are lurking in your favourite products. Any shocks?
But do not panic, all is not lost. Once you know what ingredients to avoid it becomes a mission of seeking out healthier, natural alternatives.
However, when shopping for organic hair products we recommend that you continue to be vigilant and carefully read ingredient labels. Even though some products claim to be all natural or organic, not all of them strictly adhere to this promise. Typically, if there are more than nine or ten ingredients listed, the product most likely contains at least some synthetic materials.
The benefits of organic, natural hair care products
True organic hair care products offer a wealth of benefits for your hair and scalp that will be immediately noticeable. How often is it neccessary to get your hair cut?
I take really good care of my hair I deep condition it alot and i use color smart matrix and abba organic hair reconstructer. I don’t use any heating tools and I only dye my naturally bright blonde hair black every 3 months. Right now my hair is about 4 inches past my collar bone and i want to grow it out at least a foot or at least long enough so it is at level with my belly button. How long will it take me and what is the least often i can get my ends trimmed? Also any tips to make it grow faster/healthier? Or any hair dye that will do less damage? Thanx for any advice in advance.
i have waist length hair and would say you need to get your hair trimmed like 1/4th of an inch at least every 3 months to keep it healthy. it should take you about a year and a half to get it to your belly button.
