Twin Hand Me Downs What to do with them
If you have twins, then as they get older you will be having to make some decisions as to what to do with their clothing. This seems like a simple question until the clothes start piling up. What I would recommend is to start asking yourself the following questions:
- Do I believe I need to of everything for the future ?
- Is there someone locally, a neighbor who is not as well off as me financially, or an organization that would benefit from the clothing ?
- How much space do I have in my shed or garage to actually go and store everything ?
Perhaps you have already thought about a number of these questions, or you may have never given this any thought at all. If you have, what answers have you been actually been thinking about for yourself. If you have not, might I politely suggest now is a good time to start.
I can tell you that from seeing myself out grow my clothing over the years that my mother would actually do a mix of the above suggestions. We had a neighbor who did not have twins, but did have three children. They were a little younger and their frame was smaller. This allowed my mother to give one set of clothing to them. My mother gave away anything from our suits, to pajamas. Mind you, these were decent brands and were in very good condition. She certainly took good care of our clothes.
There was also a local charity that accepted used clothing for those less fortunate. I would compare it to a salvation army. They would then both put it into their used store or give it directly to those who may need it. My mother would analyze each item and make a decision. If our neighbor did not take one set of that particular item then she would immediately put it aside to give to that organization. If the neighbor did take a set of clothing, then it really was a case by case basis. Things like suits were analyzed. If it was a plain blue or grey suit for example, it was more likely that it would be kept and put away. If it was a striped one or specific style it was more likely that the second set would be given away to the charity organization.
Once it was decided which clothing would either go to my neighbor, go to a charitable organization, or we which items we would keep, we then got to work on putting it away. No one seemed better at this to me then my mother. She would label each box in three different places. On top, and one on each of the wider sides. We would then put it in our garage neatly against the wall.
Over the years we have certainly collected a lot of clothing, and have given away a lot as well. I think people who have twins are doubly blessed and if you are able to do a good deed as a by product of having them then it only enhances the joy of having them.
