Crawl Space Vapor Barrier: Effective Measure against Moisture

It is important to use some sort of protection against various issues that crop up because of the activity underneath your crawl space. Many a home owners wonder what use is it to install crawl space vapor barrier when they are never going visit down there. It is true that you would never go underneath your crawl space but what happens inside there have an impact on your home.  What is more, it is part of your homes and it is your responsibility to take care that it always remains a wonderful place to stay. A lot of problems arise due to water entering the crawl space of your home. There are three ways in which water can reach underneath your crawl space-through concrete around your home, from a plumbing leak, or through air. It does not matter whether moisture enters as humidity or as a result of leak, it would spell trouble for you. Along with solving water issues, it is important you use crawl space waterproofing systems to see that water does not enter your crawl space.

Humidity presents another problem. It comes into your home through the crawl space vent with damp earth and cement soaking up the water. Sooner, water vapors would be released which you can take care of by sealing off all crawl space vents and installing a crawl space vapor barrier. It is better not use cheap and inferior solutions. Needless to say, such a good quality crawl space vapor barrier will have access space for you and workers. You must also ensure whether it is resistant to punctures and tears. Also spread a gravel bed underneath to allow water to pass. You might just as well go for crawlspace encapsulation. It would work by sealing all outside vents, installing a high-quality vapor retarder on all uncovered walls and floor surfaces and conditioning the air.

It is common knowledge that moisture collects on all organic materials- wood floorboards, support beams, etc, would be affected. As you would see wood swelling warping with moisture, be prepared to face nasty smells of rot, mold and mildew.  This would worsen if you won’t install a good Crawl space vapor barrier as that is the only way to safeguard your home from nasty smells coming from your crawl space. In the absence of any protection, your crawl space becomes a habitat where mice, snakes, rats, etc, will start living and dying.

Can the charcoal-filled vapor canister, which captures gas-tank fumes, in a vehicle become plugged with age?

. . . or would it still allow free-flow of air, but just not be very effective at capturing the V.O.C. (volatile organic compound) emissions, as long as it has always been sealed and thus presumably kept dry?
. . . the reason for concern is the rough idling, and a fault code (14, for Chrysler) dealing with a major lack of vacuum in the intake manifold (the canister purge solenoid uses intake-manifold vacuum).
