Tips To Choose Healthy Yogurt
Yogurt is a favorite snack that is able to be consumed for all ages. Many people love the yogurt because the freshness and the benefits for health. In addition it contains low fat and even no fat at all, yogurt without sugar is safe to eat well for diabetics. So in order to avoid wrong choice, we need special tips on choosing the right yogurt.
1. Check the calories per serving and the size
Each of yogurt packaging does not mean have the same calories size. One package contains an average of 70-230 calories with a size range from 4 to 8 ounces. There’s even a yogurt that contains few calories, only 3 ounces. So if you want to reduce your calorie intake, choose low-calorie yogurt.
2. Knowing the sugar content
Rather than focusing on the number of grams of sugar in yogurt, see a list of its content. Because, sometimes yogurt also contain lactose and natural sugar in milk products. If considered, sugar derived from lactose and other sources, it was like fruit.
If you choose a fruit yogurt, make sure that in addition to fruit or fruit juice, you do not get more than one other added sugar, such as naturally milled organic sugar. If you find a yogurt with two additional sugars, such as high fructose corn syrup, you better choose the type of yogurt without sugar.

Are all walmart organics bad??
I have heard that they have been in trouble twice for not selling real organics….and since some of their food comes from china it can be dangerous……but what about the organic brands that you can get in any store like the o baby yogurt…or the organic rice dream milk….or anything that is the same brand as a health food store sells…it can’t be fake if its the same as the other brands right? how can walmart be resoponsible if they buy their food from food companies and are not making it themselves?
The problem is, you simply can’t know whether it is safe or not, not for sure. Basically, the big food companies are buying up small organic companies. Horizon, for example, is now owned by a conglomerate. Organic Pastures is not. The way the food is grown and processed may be the same…and it may not. It may be the same today. It may not be the same tomorrow. There is a lot of room for labelling shenanigans under our current laws, unfortunately.
And as another person pointed out, you are still supporting Walmart.
May I suggest a more excellent way?
www.realmilk.com is a website that will explain why real, raw dairy may be much better for you than any milk alternative in a box, and has links that may help you find raw cow and goat milk in your area. There are thriving groups who carpool to farms regularly, even when it is far away. In other towns, farmers bring their milk into town weekly. It keeps great! You can easily make your own kefir and yogurt and creme fraiche and buttermilk. Goat milk is an excellent base for baby formulas, and is sometimes the one thing that turns around chronic ear infections in children. A large number of adults who think they are lactose intolerant are only intolerant of pastureized milk, which is very difficult to digest for most people. Overall, the health benefits of raw milk may surprise you.
www.eatwild.com is a great place to find people who are growing their own grass-fed/grass-finished meats and pastured poultry/eggs. It is a rare occasion indeed when I buy an animal product in any store when I can support my local farmer and get a better product at a better price!
There may be a local farmer’s market or organic coop or even a local farm that sells subscriptions to its produce. Food grown locally will be much higher in nutrition, and the price may be very similar.
There are also many yahoo groups where you can easily get all the information you need on how to find these places, find carpools and coops, and to use these wonderful foods most effectively. Try doing a search in yahoo groups with words like “raw,” “farmers markets,” “produce,” “CSA,” “grass-fed,” “pastured poultry,” and the name of your town, neighboring towns, county, etc.
Depending on where you live, you may be very pleasantly surprised at your options.
You can also order some of the better products very easily online, either at the product’s website or at the website of a distributor. You can’t get the “best stuff” at Walmart. Sometimes you can’t even get it a regular or even nice Whole Foods type stores: things like Bariani Olive Oil, or Eden 100% Soba noodles, or Tropical Traditions Coconut Oils, Coconut flour and coconut flakes. You can’t get the safest fish there, you have to go to places like www.vitalchoice.com. If you can’t find raw milk, or don’t drink milk, you may still enjoy the health benefits of raw butter from places like www.organicpastures.com. Your Thanksgiving turkey and goat cheese could be straight from the farm at www.whiteegretfarm.com. www.rawfood.com has some raw things that are very healthy and very difficult to find. I’m sure there are hundreds of other opportunities out there to get products of quality, at a good price, and make up for the shipping costs by all the money you will save driving to the grocery store.
A wonderful book to convince you of why these are great ideas is “Nourishing Traditions” by Sally Fallon and Mary Enig. Tons of wonderful recipes that will teach you more than any other cookbook you have ever read, and full of startling health studies that contradict a lot of modern medical “knowledge.”
If you are more of a Vegan-type, check out any book by the Boutenkos, Natalia Rose, George Malkmus, Norman Walker, David Wolfe, among many others.
Basically, you are asking a great question. And no, Walmart can not be responsible if they are buying products made by others. And since the bottom line is what counts at Walmart, I imagine there will be some changes made in how those foods are produced.
