Now there saying Organic is no different than commercial produce?

They did a 50 year research on organic and said they found no difference with commercial produce when it comes to nutritional value and taste etc. It came on the news today,there goes my hopes.

There are many things to consider when looking at this research:

1) Pesticides, like others said, they only looked at vitamins not whether they were contaminated with pesticides which organic are not.

2) More and more research has been looking at more than just vitamins and things like antioxidants.

3) They have huge ranges of error, like one of the statistics I saw them quoting showed that something had like 30% more vitamin A than the conventional version, but that was within their margin of error. What kind of study is that?

4) Related to number 3, they DIDN’T do 50 years of research, they compared previous studies that have been done over the years so to really get any idea of whether their study was even sound you’d have to go over every study they used to get their data, as well as their own reasons for using the studies they did use and not others.

5) Lastly, organic doesn’t really mean much anymore as far as health because a lot of organic is industrial organic. It is grown on large factory farms where the only difference is that they don’t use chemicals. But they still treat the soil poorly compared to say a small farm where they grow many crops and different animals so that they can do things to keep the soil healthy like rotate crops and sue animals for regular natural fertilization. A healthy nurtured soil is what brings additional nutritional value down the line, like that found in grass-fed versus corn fed beef not just the lack of using pesticides.

I don’t think its a good study regarding nutritional value. If anything it should make people rethink what government regulation of organic is letting the big corporations get away with. They need to stop calling it “organic” which makes people think small healthy farm and leave organic to the actual small sustainable farms.
