About Organic Food
Many people have come to adapt an organic lifestyle without even making the effort to understand the basic concept about organic food. For some people, the organic lifestyle is merely a trend that they cannot wait to try out but for the majority of the population, it is a major life choice that one can commit to in an effort to achieve a healthier mind and body. While it is obviously a good choice to make the conscious effort to choose healthier food alternatives, it is imperative that one does everything that he can to learn about organic food, in order for him to maximize the benefits that they have for him. There are different things that some people clearly do not understand about what is organic foods, despite making them a part of their everyday lifestyles. Here are some things that you should know about organic food in order to make your diet healthier and more effective.
In a nutshell, what you need to know about organic food include any type or kind of food that was grown naturally, without the use of any synthetic chemical whatsoever. Processing this type of commercial food options involves the minimal use of machines, for no artificial process was used to grow them. While the over-all process may be more time-consuming and more harrowing for those who grow them, mainly because they have to do everything by hand and to wait for the crops to grow on their own rates, foods that are grown using this natural means is viewed to be exponentially healthier. In addition to the fact that no synthetic chemicals are used to grow these foods, thereby making those a hundred percent natural, no pesticides are also used to protect them from insects, thus making them safer than their synthetically-protected counterparts.
It is true that incorporating organic foods to your everyday diet is very different from actually growing them, much more selling them as a means of profit. For one, not everyone can simply go out and sell the fruits and vegetables that he has grown in his backyard. The process of being certified as an organic grower takes around five years, more or less, because you need to prove that you have the skills, techniques, and equipment that are necessary for the process. You also need to pass various examinations and to submit different pieces of paper work before you will get you USDA certification.
Many people are under the impression that organic foods taste different from their synthetically-aided counterparts, which has come to be the major reason why people choose not to go organic and they don’t know enough about organic food. The organic fruits and vegetables taste so much better. The main difference is that they take longer to grow and they require more effort on the part of the growers to keep them healthy. To straighten out other misconceptions that you have about this type of foods, then you need to make sure that you find out what you can about organic food.
Are fats from eating whole food bars, whole foods, organic foods, natural foods, OK to eat regularly?
I mean it’s still fat, and alot of saturated fat in all of those as well. But is it safe and okay to eat regularly, or should all types of fat be eaten as little as possible including good fats from whole foods, organic foods, fish, etc?
Aren’t we supposed to include fat in our diets?
The ONLY fat that’s technically bad for us is trans fat right?
Saturated fat is OK?
Trans and saturated are different type of fats.
No, trans fat is not the only bad fat. Saturated fat is bad for you too. Too much fat of any kind is bad for you. The FDA recommends that you consume no more than 20-30% of your daily calories as fat, and only 10% of that should be saturated. The rest really should be polyunsaturated or monounsaturated. The AHA recommends no more than 7% be saturated. It doesn’t matter if the fat is organic or not to your body. The coconut oil from your organic snack bar is just as bad for you as the stuff dripping out of that burger. Saturated fats raise blood cholesterol levels, and dietary cholesterol does the same thing. So in the end, you still need to limit fat intake from all sources. Just because it’s organic doesn’t make it healthier all the time. Organic just means no preservatives, chemicals, or pesticides, etc. The nutrients remain pretty much the same to your body. So the vitamin A it contains is the same whether it comes from an organic carrot or a regular carrot. And the fat from an organic cow is just as bad as any other.
